Remembering Fran Holt
(1930-2021)
We are saddened to learn of the passing of charter member of the DuPage Libertarians, Fran Holt (center). Fran was instrumental in the formation of the DuPage chapter and the state party. Even at age 91, she was willing to do whatever she could to help advance liberty. Rest In Peace, Fran, thank you for everything you have done!
[Fran] gave me great advice about getting signatures for Ballot Drives at the state convention. I offer my condolences to her family. - Lorraine DeNardis Albert
Really enjoyed getting the opportunity to talk with [Fran] this past summer. I wish I had more time to get to know her. - Karl K. Wuckert
Oh, Fran? I went all the way back to 1980 with her at Steve Nelson's home in Downers Grove. I am so glad to have spent time with her at one of the last few conventions. What a great lady. I will miss her thoughtful little smiles. I liked her immediately because she spoke her mind and had a pure honesty about her demeanor. - David Jahntz
I first met Fran Holt at an Objectivist salon on the South Side. I had no idea of her history in the LPI at the time. She was sassy and funny. I later learned she was a major leader in the LPI and subsequently saw her at conventions. Sad to hear of her death. - Justin Tucker
Candidate Spotlight:
Bill Redpath
US Senate - 2022
Federal Candidate
A Libertarian Party member since 1984, Bill is the Illinois Libertarian nominee for US Senate. He is a former Chairman of the LNC, having served two terms in that position from 2006 to 2010. He has served on the LNC from 1989 to 1993, and again from 2003 to 2020.
Redpath is one of 14 inductees into the Libertarian Party’s Hall of Liberty, having been inducted in 2016 with former US Representative Ron Paul.
He has run for office as a Libertarian candidate seven times before; specifically, he ran for the Virginia House of Delegates (1993), the Virginia Senate (special election in January 1998), Governor (2001), U.S. Senate (2008), US House, Tenth District of Virginia (2010 & 2014) and US House, Sixth District of Illinois (2020).
Bill is perhaps best known within the Libertarian Party for his work on ballot access. He served as Chairman of the Libertarian Party Ballot Access Committee from 1990 to 1997 and is currently the LP’s National Ballot Access Coordinator. In 1992 and 1996, the Libertarian Party presidential ticket was on the ballot everywhere in the United States. This marked the first time that a “minor” political party placed its presidential ticket on the ballot in all states in successive presidential elections. Since he became involved with national LP ballot access in 1990, the Libertarian Party has placed a presidential ticket on the ballot in all 50 states and DC in five of eight presidential elections.
"My platform combines conservative stances on economic issues and generally liberal positions on social issues. My core philosophy: people should be able to live their own lives as they choose, without interference, as long as they do not harm other people or their property. To that end, my campaign calls for reduced government spending, lower taxes and real respect for civil liberties," states Redpath.

What a strong, independent woman Fran was. She would call me every ballot drive to see if we could use help petitioning at the Kane County gun show. Fran was an inspiration to me, and I hope to many other women as well. - Julie Fox
[Fran] was always a pleasure to talk to! - Preston Nelson
I’ve enjoyed a handful of different conversations and events with Fran and she is definitely someone to aspire to be like. I only wish I could watch a movie of her life. - Jenae Wise
Candidate Spotlight:
Jason Ross Decker
Cook County Commissioner 5th District - 2022
Local Candidate
Decker is a resident of Midlothian, ILwho is known in the area for organizing many events in the area, which mainly revolve around helping the community.
He has announced that he is running for Cook County Commissioner in the 5th District.
The Northwest Cook Libertarians oppose Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s END ENDS Act. The congressman’s bill to increase federal regulations on e-cigarettes is based upon inconclusive evidence. Krishnamoorthi exaggerates the risks associated with vaping and fails to recognize vaping as an alternative to smoking tobacco.
The National Youth Tobacco Survey concluded that frequent use of vaping among teenagers is primarily among current or former smokers. The study suggests vape products do not encourage nicotine use except those who have smoked traditional cigarettes. It is crucial to note the main difference between vaping and cigarettes: e-cigarettes contain nicotine but no combustible tobacco. Krishnamoorthi omits this important difference in his arguments. Equating vaping with tobacco use is misleading.
Reason magazine criticized Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s stance on vape products and the regulations that he believes should be applied to them.
“Krishnamoothi supports federal excise taxes that would double or triple the cost of nicotine liquids… he wants to ban the e-liquid flavors that former smokers overwhelmingly prefer, which likewise would make these products less appealing as an alternative to conventional cigarettes. He wants to mandate reductions in e-liquid nicotine content, which would have a similar effect, while authorizing the FDA to order further reductions,”
Reason stated.
Krishnamoorthi seeks to raise taxes on vape products to the same level as conventional cigarettes. It is clear he wishes to generate revenue for the federal government under the guise of protecting public health when there is no conclusive evidence to support his claims on this issue. To the contrary, the END ENDS Act will discourage the use of e-cigarettes, which are a less harmful alternative for tobacco users. We support every possible method for those who wish to quit tobacco products.
The Northwest Cook Libertarians firmly believe individuals have the right to make personal decisions, as long as one’s actions do not inflict harm on any other person or property. Krishnamoorthi’s proposed policies to over-regulate vape products violates individual bodily autonomy and infringes on every American’s right to pursue happiness.
